And to Gail B., you sound like a highly intelligent person with excellent tastes. If anyone ever does a tribute show, let's go! News Update: I read that they are making a movie out of Please Kill Me w/ Ted Demme directing and Wayne Kramer doing the music. But the story will be centered on Dee Dee. Also, it said that Joey was recording You Can's Put Your Arms.....with Ronnie Specter, for what I don't know. Okay, I'm being a little chatterbox so, BYE!

I have to agree with you that the Aerosmith of 1997 SUCKS! But I'm a fan of what they did in the '70s--and I saw the Joe Perry Project live a bunch of times and they rocked...And yeah I agree Thunders was cooler than Johansen--shit, Johnny Thunders is a big reason I play guitar and write songs, like he is for a lot of people...But I know that Joe Perry honestly liked the Dolls--in fact, the Project used to play "Pills"...I think, he appreciated them, at least...but i do see your side of it. peace.

I cannot believe you called me an asshole. Buddy you got a lot of nerve, but you got no class. You aren't grasping the big picture. David J was not the Dolls. Thunders was. Nobody is making a David J movie. He was the ruin of the band. (granted drugs played an integral role). Johnny hated Steven Tyler. I do too. Death to Aerosmith. Those rebels. Aerosmith remind me of all those guys that go to Berklee in Boston and work in guitar stores BUT JUST DONT GET IT. You apparently belong in that category. I hope I'm wrong about you. I'm not claiming to be anything or know anything different. I just hate Aerosmith and all the other Stadium filling-pepsi sponsored-spandex wearing-wireless-100 guitar collection-fools.

Did anyone get a glance at Walk this Way the new book by those losers Aerosmith? It manages to trash the Dolls pretty completely...claims the dolls couldnt play sing or even tune their instruments...including an interview in which Tyler becomes irate at a journalists opinion that he is ripping Johansen off. Aerosmith of all people criticize Thunders and Nolan for their drug use. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Why couldnt it have been Steven Tyler six feet under? I think if you paid more attention you would've noticed that Joe Perry considered himself best friends with Johansen and was always a fan of the band. In fact, he played guitar on Johansen's first solo album...The Dolls WERE out of tune a lot, and the musicianship wasn't stellar. But I think anyone with brainwave activity knows that those things were secondary to the Dolls. They were just a very cool rock'n'roll band...Just because you dislike Aerosmith you shouldn't try to distort what their book says. It makes you look like an asshole.

It's posed in front of that "Gem Spa" place place pictured on the back of the first Doll's album, but the band is totally dressed down. They all have short hair. Thunders is dressed in an outfit similar to the "So Alone" cover, and Jerry Nolan has on one of those suits he wore in the Heartbreakers days. It looks to me to be taken way after '75, 77?, 78? Did anyone get a glance at Walk this Way the new book by those losers Aerosmith? It manages to trash the Dolls pretty completely...claims the dolls couldnt play sing or even tune their instruments...including an interview in which Tyler becomes irate at a journalists opinion that he is ripping Johansen off. Aerosmith of all people criticize Thunders and Nolan for their drug use. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Why couldnt it have been Steven Tyler six feet under?

Whenever we get compared to the Dolls/Heartbreakers sound a chill goes through me 'cause for one of the first times in my life, I feel like I'm doing something right! Everything about Johnny, from his hair, clothes, guitar playing and death defying lifestyle came straight from the heart and taught me that ya gotta believe in yourself and not give a funk what other people are saying or doing. His memory lives on, even if we can't put an arm around it!

Message:
Does anybody have any memories of Johnny, The Heartbreakers or The Dolls that they would like to post here on the board? I was 16 years old, and living in South Florida (totally against my will - my father took an early retirement). All the kids in my high school were redneck assholes into Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Eagles. I was a HUGE David Bowie fan (ooh, he's queer, he's weird, how can you like him?) which made me vastly unpopular to begin with. I had the Dolls first album cover blown up into a poster and I had it hanging over my bed. My parents were ready to send me to a psychiatrist. They thought they were transvestites or drag queens or something. I thought they were all hot, ESPECIALLY JOHNNY. There were no guys like that in MY HIGH SCHOOL. Anyways, I saw the Dolls play a bar in Fort Lauderdale called The Flying Machine the day before my 16th birthday, December 21, 1974. They didn't draw a big crowd. They were an incredible band. I can't stand it when people say, oh, they couldn't play, they were terrible. They had an energy and an attitude that no other band in those days had. Believe me, I know. That's it for now. Anybody care to comment? Gail
