I offer you my proofreading services pro bono! Only saw Thunders once, at the
Duchess of York in Leeds, England in 1990. He was so decrepit he didn't play
guitar, just stood, sang and got heckled, and took many backstage breaks. -A
friend of mine's mum was rolling him spliffs this time! Days later his
guitarist accosts me in a club: wanna come over? I've got Johnny Thunders
sleeping on my floor! I agree wholeheartedly with everyone who put You Can't
Put Your Arms Around A Memory as their favorite - says it all.

Comments: I just wanted to relate my
visit down to St. Peters guest house. I went down just after Johnny died. And
beside a school teacher before me I was the next person to stay in the same room
as Johnny. I found a used needle in the bathroom behind the sink, which had to
be Johnny's (I still have it.) I videotaped and took pictures in the room. I
Taped an interview with Royce the care taker who found him. Johnny was lying on
the floor with his head under the dresser. I videotaped myself lying in the same
spot. I also talked to Willie DeVille. I brought my guitar and jammed with
Willie on the steps of his house, totally cool experience. I also have a copy of
the autopsie from the coroners in New Orleans, I could send it to anyone
interested. I also visited Johnny's gravesite in Queens. I own a les paul junior
in honor of the man and I had a band called Lipstick Killers and another called
Trash. My brother always laughs cuz my guitar riffs sound so much like somthing
Johnny would write...what can I say influence runs deep. Rock on Johnny and
Jerry.... Sincerely Tommy Stooge... If anyone wnats to write:

Comments: This is a great website. I
had the great pleasure of seeing JT in NYC many times during the late 70's and
through the 80's. It was always a great party. Musically, some shows were
awesome. The last great performance I had the opportunity to see was in 1988 at
the Ritz (original) in NY. The Senders and Cheeta Chrome & Gettho Dogs were
the opening acts. Johnny played like he really had something to prove and the
interplay between Johnny and his guitarist Stevie was excellent. Johnny also
jammed heavily with Jamie on sax.Walter Lure performed Too Much Junkie Business
with Cheetah's band. About midway through Johnny's set he says this is how this
song really goes and rips into Junkie Business. It was quite memorable. I had
the opportunity to get back stage a couple of times, but that is a story for
next time.

Johnny at the Apocalypse in Toronto that night. I had previously played guitar

have some leads on other interesting Thunders' collections, both video &

unbelievable Johnny stories, life-advice [!], and his take on several events
which have subsequently passed into legend in punk circles. We were extremely
happy to find your site, and it is most reassuring and gratifying to know that
not only is he not forgotten, but he still has an influence in the lives of an
impressive number of people [thank god not only Guns 'n' Roses]. In the immortal

Comments: I only just discovered
Johnny Thunders a sort while ago. I'm in a band called the Ultimatics and the
guys in my band turned me on to Johnny and also the Dolls. I'll never meet the
man or see him live, but LAMF inspires me. When I play a show, the songs aren't
his, but I play em like Johnny would have. I try to carry on the great, often
overlooked, tradition of Rock&Roll. I feel sad about the fact that alot has
gone under the bridge and is never coming back. Rock on true believers!!!

Comments: Nothing was like a
Heartbreakers show. I hung out at Max's from 77-80 and saw them tons of times.
The best was when he picked on Walter and when he changed the words to Give Him
A Great Big Kiss. If you hung out at Max's and CBGB's during that time, please
write. I am trying to put together a screen play about that time and there are
lots of people and bands and I would love to know what happened to. You can't
put you arms around a memory....

Comments: Hail to the mighty Chris for
taking the time to put up a great web site to to the late (alway's) great Johnny
Thunders. I'll miss him always. Hi Chris ... I was a roadie with Johnny and
Wayne during the Gang War days I wanted to share a storie with you from those
days I will never forget. It was the late 70's early 80's (I can't remember the
exact year? to much partying) and we had a gig at the Channel Club in Boston it
was one of the only gigs out of town because Johnny wouln't go out of town
without any junk or afraid of not being able to get any. Anyway you get the
picture. We alway's had 2 roadies but that night we could only take 1 of us and
I was the designated driver, roadie, lightman, everything man. We get to the
place. it's one of those big open area suburban type nigtclubs with big burly
bouncers. The 1st band goes on. Than i'ts our turn. The only thing is Johnnys
guitar won't work, so Johnny talks the guy in the opening act into letting him
use his guiitar. So I take his guitar and put it in the dressing room with the
big burly bouncers. Johnny goes on. He was great, sloppy but great. During the
show Johnny's putting down the guy in the front row w/this girlfriend. The show
ends we go backstage only to discover Johnny's prized guitar has been stolen. So
of course being the pee-on roadie I take the heat. Johnny comes storming at me
like a storm trooper from hell and kicks me in the nuts . We go at it utill the
dickhead bouncers who were watching the guitar in the first place break us up !
Well that's not the end of the storie. We go outside and the kid who was
sitting up front calls hey Johnny and socks him right in the jaw. Now all hell
breaks loose the whole band is going at it. Me,Wayne,Bobby,Johnny. Finally the
police show up. I literally grab the band by the pant's and throw them into the
the car. We now get a police escort to the border and are told never to come
back to Boston. No problem. I hate the fucking place anyway! Well I guess I
don't have to tell you that was my last gig with Johnny. All in All I had a
great time working with those guy and would't trade it for a million bucks.
Yeah Right! Please feel free to use this in your stories section I'd like to
share this with others. Ados Larry Hey mr soundman more reverb. Johnny
Thunders

Comments: I've been looking for a site
like this, that payed homage to the classic punk (whatever that means). You have
a good site, and I look forward to revisiting. By-the-by, if you're into '77-'82
or so, punk rock-feel free to e-mail me. My best to you all.

Comments: I saw Johnny Thunders in
NYC-Manhattan in '88 at Downtown bar(think its called) near the Village. It was
an all acoustic show.First thing he asks of course before the 1st song is
Anybody got a joint? The opening band was an all girl band called Pandora I
think, dressed in bikini leather outfits. They wore revealing outfits but rocked
the place at same time.It was a great show,I was too fraid to ask him for
autograph as he walked past me before starting. He was a short guy, possibly like
5'6 or 5'5 was amazed.I had to see him live,no one else i knew was into him and
I knew it was now or never.Just like seing P.I.L. in '92-now or never, didnt
regret that show either. But he was into the songs so was the crowd of
course, yelling requests and he did look pale but then again thats Johnny for
you.But will never forget him saying in between songs how much Heavy Metal
sucks...R.I.P. Johnny
