These black & white shots were taken with high contrast film so that's why they look they way they do. The show must have been sometime in 1974 and you'll notice that Peter Jordan is playing bass rather than Arthur Kane. If you look closely at Arthur you can see that his hand is in a cast so he couldn't play his instrument. I'm sure everyone has heard the story of how a jealous girlfriend slashed his hand to prevent him from touring.
