wonderful site; adequate tribute to perhaps the most intense rock 'n' roller
ever, the chuck berry of the 70's and 80's. my favorite minor incident with
johnny was the one where i was just inside the front entrance at max's and saw
him coming down the stairs. i said 'how y' doin'', or whatever i could manage,
and his reply consisted of literally falling onto me. my faves include the
stones, the ramones, the velvet underground, the fall (know 'em?), willy
deville, etc., etc. i don't think i'd rather see any of 'em more than johnny
thunders. the man, the artist, reeked of cool.

Comments: I seen Johnny Thunders &
the Heartbreakers a few times,each better then the last. One in paticular was a
Halloween show at a small club inn Brooklyn, called Zappas. Some guy was dressed
as a Quallude 714, another was dressed as a shower, it was a wild scene,Johnny
was in usual form,he was barely able to stand, and the band was going through a
song and Johnnys strumming away,Walter lets him get halfway through the song
before going over and plugging in Johnnys guitar cord.He looks at over and says
thanks Walter.It was sarcastic and classic Johnny Thunders. I will never forget
the way they were,comical and and true rock&roll. What esle is there to say
except its a F*CKING shame hes not around any more. I bet Johnny and Jerry are
still playing they're asses off somewhere !

Comments: I've been a huge JT fan
since I saw the NY Dolls at the University of Rhode Island in 73. They blew the
place away. I remember Johnny had a streak of blond in his hair and he had huge
platform shoes. Last time I saw Thunders was 1985 in Providence. He was four
hours late and played hit the road jack and a few more songs, before passing

note now that i've been checking out this site for awhile.It's a really good
source to connect with other people who are likeminded.I really owe a lot to
Johnny 'cause he was the reason that i started playing guitar.I stole a copy of
The Dolls too much too soon when i was thirteen,and his playing has been an
influence on me for the past ten years.Without Johnny,there never would have
been The dead boys,The viletones,hanoi rocks,the damned,manic street
preachers,d-generation.He is the purest symbol of glampunk rock'n'roll.I'm just
glad to know there's still a few people with good taste out there that haven't
bought onto all the sugar coated alternative rock shit now happening,cause Green
day&marilyn manson make me as sick now as i felt in 1987 when everything
was all about Bon Jovi and Van Halen.Cheers.

self-titled (Dolls) for the first time. The New York Dolls utilized raw power.

in Albany New York called J.B.Scott's.It was Jan of 1980 and he was on tour with
Gang War.My buddy David and I arrived early to the club.Suddenly,Johnny came
walking in with his bandana tied around his head and went straight for the Men's
Room.Shortly after he came out and arrived at our
table.'Qualudes,herion,speed....'he asked.I informed him that I had none of the
above but I did have a nichel of great reefer that I would share with him .We
headed for the dressing room and I was introduced to Wayne Kramer.I confess that
at the time I didn't know about the MC5 and I remember Johnny saying,do you know
who this is ...do you know who this is. We had a great
time.John,Wayne,David and myself sat together smoking reefer and talking about
music.Wayne was telling us about his prision experience.Ifelt like I had known
both of them all of my life.The band took several breaks and each time we were
invited backstage for another joint.The place was packed and I remember these
college kids trying to come back stage and Johnny being very rude to
them.Security came and tried to clear out the dressing room.Johnny and Wayne
told the bouncers that we were with them.I'll never forget John's guitar case it
was really beat up and The New York Dolls name on it was partially scratched
out.I liked Johnny.I felt sad when he died.I still keep in touch with Wayne.I'm
glad things came together for him and that he is getting the recognition he
deserves.

discovered New York Dolls when we were teenegers,in many ways it changes our
lifes against the teenage angst.We who discovered teenage angstland get
ourselves in New York Dolls and Dictators(at the age of 39 years i got to see
my teenagesavers in a concert in Borlange Sweden + I got to shake hands with
Top Ten and get greetings from Bronx too!!!!!!!)By the way i got in to Johnny
after many years of admiration,the albums i have is L.A.M.F. and So Alone.I
love him and all he did (he lived in Stockholm Sweden as Richard Loyd and
stayed pretty happy with gurlfriend and baby)I miss him so couse he was
more prototype than Keith Richards in the name of Rock and Roll.After all
those `wasted years¥ i will always play the N.Y.D. records and Thunders
too.By the way,I got shake hands with Top Ten and get his `greetings from
Bronx ¥too.It made me very proud as if inb Sweden ¥so called stars¥wouldn¥nt
evern recounised me.It made me very sad too hear about Johnnys death.Be GOD

Johnny thunders has always been one of my absolutely greatest influencies. He
stands for punkrock¥n¥roll personified and he made some of the rock¥n¥roll
history¥s best songs no matter what anyone says! Johnny Thunders and Dee
Dee Ramone are the greatest songwriters ever! I saw him live 5 times, 4 in
Sweden and one at The Marquee in London. One of the shows in Nas, Sweden was the
best show I¥ve ever seen and I doubt it really hard that I ever will feel
the same enthusiasm and euforia on a rock consert as then in july 1984....he
played together with Sylvain, Nolan and Billy Rath wow-ee that was a classic
line-up, I even got some live pic¥s I took myself from the venue! The day
after I watched them in Hallefors but it wasn¥t that good but close
to....Johnny it¥s a sad vacation! R.I.P. Love/ Micke
